Starting
January 23, call your U.S. Representative toll-free:
800-426-8073
On December 19, right-wing leaders forced the House of
Representatives in the middle of the night to approve a budget bill slashing aid
that Americans depend on – after giving members only a few hours to read the
nearly 800-page bill. Because the Senate made some small changes, the bill goes
back to the House for another vote on February 1. Now they have plenty of time
to read the bill – and change their vote.
Some provisions of the bill are even worse than
previous versions we opposed.
Medicaid cuts will cause
low-income people to lose health care. The bill makes it harder for
middle-income elderly people to get long-term care and withholds child care that
families leaving welfare need to work.

Steps You Can Take To Stop This Bill
1. Call your Representative
- use the toll-free number above (generously provided by American Friends
Service Committee).
For a pdf flier with information about how
to call, click here:

2. Be prepared if your
Representative tries to say Congress didn't really make cuts.
A cut is any provision that takes away benefits people need -- and this
bill has a lot of cuts. To find out more, read the CHN paper, "When Is A Cut A
Cut?" at
http://www.chn.org/pdf/2006whenisacutacut.pdf.
3. Participate in a town hall or vigil organized by the Emergency
Campaign for America's Priorities (ECAP).
Events are being planned all over the country to make members of the
House of Representatives aware of just how bad this bill is and how many harmful
provisions were added at the last minute. To find the ECAP contacts in your
state, click here:
