WV Consumer Group Celebrates 33rd year with Civic Awards,
 Art Auction & Dinner at Coonskin Park Clubhouse

Charleston WV – West Virginia’s oldest consumer protection group, WV Citizen Action is hosting its annual Award’s Dinner and Silent Auction this Friday beginning at 5:30 at Coonskin Park’s Clubhouse.

In celebrating its 33rd year of championing consumer and environmental protection, good government, and fair taxation, Citizen Action will present several awards for outstanding community service and civic engagement.

South Charleston mayor Ritchie Robb will be awarded the Don Marsh Public Service Award for his long years as head of one of the best run cities in the state and his leadership in opposition to the occupation of Iraq.

Rev. Jim Lewis, of WV Patriots for Peace will be awarded the In Defense of Democracy Award for a long history of progressive civic engagement in WV going back before the textbook burnings of the 70’s.

The evening will begin with a reception of hors d’oeuvres and music by Full Flavor, a popular local jazz trio. The silent auction will be open to bid on a wide variety of items from original art to GI Joe battery operated action figures.

Two signed Charlie Hamilton prints, “Jupiter Earth”, a 22’’x 30’’ depiction of our planet, and a 7’’x13’’ “Pissing Demon” will be on display and a Mark Blumenstein metal sculpture called “Senor Uno Leggois also on the block. A unique 5 foot tall wooden totem hand carved by Steve Thompson is also one of the offerings. In addition, many original photos will be displayed for bidding.
