Employment Opportunities

Online Outreach Manager, TrueMajority.org

TrueMajority.org is the 500,000-member online activism project of USAction. We were founded by Ben Cohen (of Ben&Jerry's ice cream) and invented some of the coolest tools of "first generation" Internet organizing, and now have joined up with the top field organizing crew in America. Put hundreds of organizers in dozens of states together with a half-million motivated online progressives, and that's us.

We're looking for a key member of the team to use those resources to change the country. Our mission is simple – bring economic, social, and racial justice for all Americans. We provide all kinds of ways for our members to push those in power toward that end.

YOUR mission, if you're chosen to accept it, is also simple, but it's not easy. The Online Outreach Manager is responsible for amping up our recruiting of new online members, and for combining existing software tools to create new and unique activism experiences for those members. Oh, and also implementing the online fundraising plan.

There's a lot of responsibility. We set hard goals for recruiting and for generating activism, and the Online Outreach Manager is responsible for hitting them. But there's also a lot of freedom and room for your creativity in breaking new ground. You're in charge of managing our outreach publishing schedule, and have a very large say in what issues we take on and how. If you've been sitting there frustrated because you can't try out that slightly crazy idea that you're just sure would be the next "Obama Girl" viral megahit, we could be the shop for you.

Naturally you'll need hardcore writing skills, a love for deadlines, and an almost uncanny sense of what is on the minds of progressive citizens right now. This isn't an entry-level position – expect interview questions like "what is the most successful issue campaign you ran last year?"

We track our results pretty closely, so trust in hard statistics over anecdotes and a decent ability with data tools like Excel are important. You don't have to have HTML hand-editing ability or other tech geek skills, but if you do it would certainly put you a leg up on the competition.

Home base location is negotiable, but easy access to the TrueMajority.org mothership in Burlington, VT would be ideal.
